The actress and director was among the attendees at the fashion house’s annual Artists Dinner, which was held this Monday evening at New York City hot spot Balthazar. For the occasion, Holmes wore a black-and-white look that fully embodied her style: simple, sophisticated, and just the right amount of messy.

The Rare Objects director wore it over a simple white tee and silky loose black high-waisted pants. She finished the outfit with glossy black leather shoes, two dainty gold necklaces, gold-and-diamond hoop earrings, and her nose hoop. She brought a little Chanel rock ’n’ roll with her messy, curly ’do and luxuriously chaotic glam: smoky eye makeup and a glossy pink nude lip.

Other must-haves from the outfit included quilted black ballet flats adorned with the Chanel logo, a black quilted crossbody bag, layered gold necklaces, and a single dangling statement earring.
